File Share Backup

NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to back up and recover data stored on NFS and SMB shares hosted on NAS devices, as well as on Windows and Linux systems. File share backups and backup copies can be stored in local or cloud Backup Repositories, including Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, Wasabi, Backblaze, generic S3-compatible storage platforms, and Azure Blob Storage. In addition, NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to send file share backup copies to tape for long-term data archiving. For more details, refer to Backup Copy to Tape Recovery.

When selecting source objects to back up, you can choose entire file shares or individual folders within a file share. Selecting the root folder automatically includes all existing subfolders as well as any new folders created under it in the future.

Data can be backed up to both Incremental with Full backups and Forever Incremental backup repository types. For cloud storage and local Linux repositories, you can also enable immutability. When required, files and folders stored in these repositories can be recovered to a custom NFS or SMB share, forwarded via email, or downloaded directly through a browser.

To protect your data stored on NFS and SMB shares, take the following actions:

  1. Add the file share to NAKIVO Backup & Replication inventory.

  2. Create a file share backup job.

  3. Recover file shares using the File Share Recovery Wizard when needed.
