FreeNAS: Backup Repository Creation Fails

Product version: 8.5

Last Verified: 06 May 2019

Background

On a FreeNAS device, the system cannot discover, import, or create a Backup Repository located on a remote CIFS share when the Onboard Transporter is assigned to it (which is usually the default scenario).

Question

Is it possible to create, add or import such a repository to NAKIVO Backup & Replication?

Answer

Since the "mount_smbfs" tool of the FreeBSD requires kernel module loading and other operations that are not allowed from within Jail, the repository located on a CIFS share can only be added, imported or created with a non-local Transporter. To add such a repository, either add an existing Transporter or deploy a new Transporter on a different VM.
