Physical Machine Agent Installation Failed

Product version: 9.0
Last modified: 27 September 2019

Problem

When adding a physical server to NAKIVO Backup & Replication, the following error message is displayed:

Physical Machine Agent installation has failed.

Physical Machine Agent cannot be installed on the "X" machine. This machine already contains a Transporter.

Background

NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers support for physical servers via the Physical Machine Agent (PMA) that is deployed on the physical machine. However, the product does not support upgrading the Transporter installed on a physical server with the PMA code. If a physical server has the Transporter installed on it, the PMA installation process fails and you see the above error.

Important
Before you proceed with the solution below, make sure that the Transporter is not being used for Hyper-V jobs.

Solution

To solve the problem, take the following actions:

For Windows physical servers

  1. Uninstall the Transporter that has been previously installed on the Windows machine by running the corresponding uninstaller accessed from Programs and Features on the Windows OS.

  2. Add the Windows physical server to the product inventory again.

For Linux physical servers

  1. Uninstall the Transporter that has been previously installed on the Linux machine by running the "uninstall" script that is located in the "transporter" folder inside the product installation folder. If the product is installed in the default location, run: /opt/nakivo/transporter/uninstall

  2. Press "U" to confirm uninstallation and then pressEnter.

  3. Add the Linux physical server to the product inventory again.
