Data on Tape Cannot Be Discovered

Problem 

When adding a tape library to NAKIVO Backup & Replication, the following error message is displayed:

Data in the (X) tape cartridge cannot be discovered.

The (X) tape cartridge block size is different than the block size of the (Y) tape device.

Background

To access content on all the tape cartridges of a tape library, all tapes should have the same data block size. The above error is displayed when a tape cartridge with backups created by NAKIVO Backup & Replication is added to the product again as part of the tape library that has a different data block size. To solve this problem, use one of the solutions below: 

Solutions

If you need to access data on the tape, do the following:

  1. Go to the Configuration page of NAKIVO Backup & Replication.

  2. Click on the Tape tab. 

  3. Select Devices view.

  4. Hover over the tape device containing the tape with inaccessible data and click Manage.

  5. Select Remove.

  6. Go back to the Tape page and click Add New Device.

  7. Add the same tape library back. Make sure that you specify the initial block size on the Select Options page. 

  8. Click Save.

If you don't need to save data on the tape, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the Configuration page of NAKIVO Backup & Replication.

  2. Click on the Tape tab. 

  3. Select Tapes view.

  4. Select the tape containing inaccessible data and click Apply action.

  5. Click Erase

After you click Erase, all backups on the cartridge will be lost.
