Location Field Is Missing After Recovering Microsoft Exchange Contacts

Product version: 11.2

Last modified: 17 August 2026

Problem

After you recover a contact from a Microsoft Exchange server backup with an object recovery job, the Location field of the recovered contact is empty. In Microsoft Outlook, this field is displayed in the Other section of the contact. All other contact fields are recovered correctly.

In product versions before 11.3, the following contact fields are also missing after recovery:

  • Personal web page

  • Hobbies

  • School

  • TTY/TDD phone

  • Phonetic (Yomi) name fields.

Background

NAKIVO Backup & Replication re-creates recovered contacts on the target Microsoft Exchange server with Exchange Web Services (EWS). Most contact fields are stored as standard Exchange properties and are available through EWS. Starting from version 11.3, NAKIVO Backup & Replication also recovers the extended fields listed above.

The Location field is stored in a custom property set that is not exposed through EWS. As a result, NAKIVO Backup & Replication cannot read the value of this field or transfer it to the recovered contact.

Solution

This behavior is a known limitation of NAKIVO Backup & Replication. To restore the missing information:

  1. Wait for the object recovery job to complete.

  2. Open the recovered contact.

  3. Enter the value of the Location field manually.

If you use a product version before 11.3, update NAKIVO Backup & Replication to version 11.3 or later and run the object recovery job again to recover the extended fields.
