Product version: All
Last modified: 23 July 2024
Problem
While backing up one or more virtual disks of the VM, the transporter machine fails to open the source VM disk(s) (for example: [datastore name] VM_A/VM_A.vmdk ). The following error message appears in the logs:
2018-11-24T19:39:39,290 [ERROR][Events] [JOB/Backup VO-ESXI6][VM/VO-ARCHIVE-X] error17: EventError17{jobId='1', title='Backup of the "VO-ARCHIVE-X" VM has failed',
description='An error has occurred while backing up one or more virtual disks of the "X" VM.
Possible Causes
Network issue
The source Transporter fails to connect to the Vcenter at port 443 or ESXi host at port 902.
Customer environmental issue
The Vcenter service does not work properly; the Vcenter machine gets overloaded (CPU, RAM, connection limitation).
VM disk failure
Solution
To resolve the issue, check the following to make sure:
-
There is no firewall block connection or network issue from source transporter to vCenter/ESXi host at port 443/902
-
The DNS setting resolves the vCenter domain name to the correct IP
-
The vCenter service works properly
-
The vCenter machine does not get overloaded (CPU, RAM, connection limitation session)
-
There is no VM disk/physical disk/datastore failure on the ESXi host side.
