Problem

The VMware vSphere/Hyper-V backup job fails with the following error that appears in the logs:

2024-04-18T18:46:16,708 [WARN ][Ict] [SYSTEM] [JOB-1590/CHG0042939][VM-52110/trx-r1ecappl2] Source item is inaccessible (not found): Name="trx-r1ecappl2", UUID=4210da7e-e16b-4b30-7e46-90e6ab71b62a.

2024-04-18T18:46:16,709 [ERROR][Events] [SYSTEM] [JOB-1590/CHG0042939][VM-52110/trx-r1ecappl2] ict1: SourceItemNotFoundRunAlarm{jobInfo='EventJobInfo{jobId=1590, jobExecutionId=null, jobScheduleName=null}', title='Backup of the "trx-r1ecappl2" VM cannot be started', description='The "trx-r1ecappl2" VM cannot be found. Make sure the VM is available. If it was deleted, edit the job and remove this VM.', transient='null'}

2024-04-18T18:46:16,712 [INFO ][Jobs] [SYSTEM] [JOB-1590/CHG0042939][VM-52110/trx-r1ecappl2] Finished BackupEnforcePreconditions (FAILED, 0s). Reason: the infrastructure has changed.

The error Finished BackupEnforcePreconditions (FAILED, 0s). Reason: the infrastructure has changed is generic and indicates that the product inventory subsystem detected the issue with the source object and failed the job.

Background

The product refreshes the source objects and their parents during the backup job run to check if the preconditions for a job data copy action are met.

In this case, the VM is unavailable (Source item is inaccessible (not found)) so the preconditions are not met. As a result, the job fails.

Solution

To resolve the issue, consider one of the following solutions:

  1. Refresh the vCenter/ESxi/Hyper-V host in inventory and make sure the status is OK ( No issue).

  2. Expand the vCenter/ESxi/Hyper-V host in inventory and check the VM status inside to make sure they are available (no inaccessible status).

  3. Open the vCenter/ESXi web client or Hyper-V manager on the customer environment and check the VM status to make sure they are available (no inaccessible status).
