Microsoft 365 Objects Data Cannot Be Retrieved via API

Product version: 11.0

Last modified: 24 July 2025

Problem

When running a Microsoft 365 backup job, the following warning may appear:

2025-04-02T22:34:39,097 [WARN ][Events] [SYSTEM] [JOB-1/Backup job for Microsoft 365][OFFICE365_EXCHANGE_MAILBOX-216/Mandi Biring] error327: EventError327{jobInfo='EventJobInfo

{jobId=1, jobExecutionId=null, jobScheduleName=null, initiatedByUserId=null}', title='8 items were not backed up.', description='Data for 8 items could not be retrieved via API.

Please try again later or contact support for more details.', transient='null'}

Background

This error indicates that during the backup, NAKIVO Backup & Replication is unable to retrieve data for two specific Microsoft 365 objects (such as mailbox folders, OneDrive files, or Teams data) via the Microsoft Graph API.

The following items are automatically skipped by design and are added to the Skipped Items Report:

  • SharePoint and OneDrive files with a 0-byte size

  • Source items that cannot be retrieved from Microsoft after 5 retries

  • Files that are manually deleted during the backup process cannot be downloaded

  • Public folders with no servers available for a selected mailbox

  • Corrupted items

  • Backups of read-only calendars (including Holiday calendars) are not supported. These calendars are also skipped and added to the Skipped Items Report

Solution

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Data Protection > Jobs, select the job and open the Job Run Details.

  2. Check the Skipped Items Report to identify which items could not be retrieved.

  3. Log in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and check the affected mailbox, OneDrive file, or Team with the reason above.
