Cannot Create a VM Backup Snapshot

Problem

The VM backup or replication job failed with the following error:

error19: title='Backup of the "0Games" VM has failed',

description='Source host could not create temporary snapshot required to back up the "0Games" VM.', transient='null'}

Reason: Detected an invalid snapshot configuration.

Background

This error occurs when the source ESXi host can not create a temporary snapshot required for backup or replication.

Solution

To resolve the issue, try the following steps:

1. Manually Create a Snapshot

   1. Right-click the VM > Snapshots > Take Snapshot.

   2. If this fails, review the Events tab for error messages and check the VM's vmware.log file in the datastore.

   3. Make sure that the snapshot can be created manually for VM from VMware side.
