Problem

After updating Synology NAS to DSM v6 NAKIVO Backup & Replication installation has stopped working.
Windows updater for NAS cannot connect to your Synology device.

Background

  • NAKIVO Backup & Replication was previously using root user account to install the product and run certain scripts.
  • In DSM v6, root user account is disabled.

Solution

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v5.9

If you were originally using NAKIVO Backup & Replication v5.9 on your Synology NAS, update to the latest version of NAKIVO Backup & Replication by following the steps below:

  1. Download the latest Linux-based NAS updater from  https://www.nakivo.com/resources/download/update/.
  2. Upload the installer file to the NAS via SSH.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that you're using the binary transfer mode.
  3. Connect to the NAS via SSH (for example, by using the PuTTY utility) and allow for the execution of the installer file.
For example: sudo chmod +x NAKIVO_Backup_&_Replication_NAS_Updater.sh
  4. Execute the updater file with root privileges.
    For example: sudo ./NAKIVO_Backup_&_Replication_NAS_Updater.sh
Review the license agreement (press Space to go to the next page of the agreement).
If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, press “Y” and then press Enter.
  5. Press the “Y” key and then press Enter to stop services and begin the update process.

IMPORTANT: sudo is required.
